Candy L. Velazquez, Esq.
Ms. Candy L. Velazquez, Esq. is an Attorney with Keith Family Law Group located in Westfield, NJ. A skilled and experienced divorce and family law attorney, Ms. Velazquez is fearless in the courtroom and a passionate advocate for her clients.
Prior to joining Keith Family Law Group, she served as an Assistant Prosecutor in the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office. During her tenure there, she was assigned to the Family Division, Domestic Violence Unit where she prosecuted violations of restraining orders and litigated weapons forfeiture matters. Candy was also assigned to the Trial Division where she prosecuted a variety of criminal offenses.
Throughout her legal career, Candy has focused on how to help families through their divorce and family law issues with a special focus on research in domestic violence. Candy’s deep understanding of family law allows her to vigorously represent clients and offer compassionate advice in all aspects of divorce and family law including alimony, child support, child support, distribution of assets, and separation.
Ms. Velazquez also brings a deep understanding of the legal and personal impacts of domestic violence. Her research included compiling statistical data on domestic violence victims in the Aboriginal community in Australia, and also involved reviewing the Australian specialized family violence courts. She brought her expertise home to New Jersey where she taught domestic violence laws at the Monmouth County Police Academy from January 2017 to December 2018.
In addition to her position as Attorney with Keith Family Law Group, Candy is an Adjunct Professor at Union County College where she teaches Legal Writing for the Paralegal Studies Program. Ms. Velazquez is fluent in Spanish and mentors high school, college, and law students through the NJ Hispanic Bar Association and NJ LEEP.
Ms. Velazquez also served as Law Clerk to the Hon. Ramona A. Santiago, J.S.C. (Ret.) of New Jersey Superior Court, Criminal Division in Essex County. After her clerkship, she joined an Essex County law firm where she handled family, criminal, and municipal matters New Jersey Courts.
Ms. Velazquez received her Juris Doctor from City University of New York School of Law where she participated in the Elder Law Clinic, drafted guardianship petitions, and assisted victims of elder abuse.
